IMAGES: ASSEMBLAGES
The assemblages consist of diverse computer components and other dismantled hi-tech devices as well as thousands of other objects, from hand tools and kitchen implements to surgical instruments and art supplies (not to mention all manner of knives and blades).
The stained works owe their patina to textured fibered roofing compound diluted with mineral spirits. The objects are stained before assembly, coated outdoors and baked on by the heat of the sun.
While many of the pieces are the product of spontaneous placement, three works are modeled on particle accelerator detectors: the Collider Detector at Fermilab, near Chicago, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, outside Geneva, and detectors at the SLAC National Laboratory in Palo Alto.
